A list of OSS projects/webapps using sprokets

Reported by Dr Nic | February 20th, 2009 @ 03:06 AM

I know sprockets is very shiny and new but I'm sure there'd be at least 1+ projects of your own that are using them. If not, you create a simple JS project + a simple Rails app with sprockets integrated. Then list these, plus any other projects that come along in time, somewhere for reference?

I want to be clever enough to figure this out; perhaps I'm just too lazy to go through all the instructions. Damn.

Aside from Prototype, Wysihat is probably the most high-profile library currently using Sprockets.

Don't know where you can find a simple Rails app that uses the sprockets-rails plugin, but perhaps we can make one as we flesh out the documentation. And it is a good idea to have a "who's using Sprockets" section of the site.

There aren't any open-source Rails apps using Sprockets, AFAIK. We're currently using it at 37signals on three of our marketing sites and two of our applications (Basecamp and Backpack). We also have several internal Sprockets plugins shared across those sites and apps. I'll be open-sourcing those plugins after they're documented.

For now, you might want to check out how Prototype and Wysihat are using Sprockets. It's used to build distributables in both projects, and with the sprockets-rails plugin, both can be externaled in vendor/sprockets/.

If anything's unclear in the docs feel free to shoot me an email. I'm hoping to record a sprockets-rails screencast soon.

Since the newjs generate structure for a JS project was based on the prototypejs structure + its "rake dist" code I guess I'll migrate it across to sprockets. Previously I used src/ext for external libs like jquery/prototype etc so they wouldn't be included in the dist/myproject.js output; the sprockets video/examples suggest moving them to vendor/ I think I like that.

Actually my little widget lib - ControlDepo 3 Widgets is using Sprockets :). I think it will be good idea to have a form on the Sprocket site for submitting projects witch used it, in this way will be much easier to gather information.
