Sortable.mark(?) and sorting <TR> table rows.

Reported by Valerie | November 14th, 2008 @ 10:28 PM

Hello, we are using Scriptaculous to sort table rows in our UI. First off, I want to say Scriptaculous is AMAZING and it was extremely quick and easy to integrate.

The Sortable works on our table rows correctly, however there is a visual component that is not. We noticed that sorting tables or other block elements as the draggables will create a blank space the size of the object where it is going to "land", so to speak. I'm not so great at explaining... it's not exactly ghosting. But if you're moving something down to below object A, a blank space will appear below A when you're hovering over that area.

However, if you are sorting table rows, there is no indicator to show where the row is going to land. Simply the rows switch instantaneously. We would like them to function visually the same as block objects, clearing a space to show where the draggable is going to fit.

I'm not really familiar with the code, but I looked it over briefly and it looks like there is something happening in Sortable.mark with a created DIV being used to show/hide, and I don't think this approach works with table rows.

If there is a workaround, or something I can do to fix this in a method override, please let me know.

***Also The table rows do not follow the mouse or float at all. They just move up or down. Did some further investigating. I still don't understand the code too well, but I think it also has to do with absolutizing the tables rows (element)... when ghosting Position.aboslutize is called on the table row and in that case, it does follow the mouse, but the empty space marker still doesn't work. Fiddled around with it but only managed to completely mess up the page layout, hehe!
