NWMatcher adapter speed enhancement

Reported by John-David Dalton | November 22nd, 2009 @ 01:10 AM

Currently the adapter has

  function select(selector, scope) {
    return engine.select(selector, scope || document, null, Element.extend);
  }

Passing a callback when not needed costs the benchmarks about 8-9% or 60-70 points.
Instead forking is recommend:

  function select(selector, scope) {
    return engine.select(selector, scope || document);
  }

  if (Element.extend != Prototype.K) {
    var select = function(selector, scope) {
      return engine.select(selector, scope || document, null, Element.extend);
    };
  }

Easy, painless, and readable way to have a decent boost.
