Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater leaks Ajax.Updater Objects

Reported by Stefan Pasel | April 18th, 2008 @ 04:47 PM

While using the PeriodicalUpdater with insertion: 'bottom'

new Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater('out', 'prototype.php?ajax=1', {
			  method: 'post', frequency: 2, decay: 2, insertion: 'bottom'
});

i noticed that the ajax response was duped on the content update.

I think (see test case attached) that the Ajax.Updater objects are not removed in the onTimerEvent function of the PeriodicalUpdater:

  onTimerEvent: function() {
    this.updater = new Ajax.Updater(this.container, this.url, this.options);
  }

and as such you are accumulating Ajax.Updaters which all feel responsible for the incoming Ajax Response and update your content.

I could reproduce the described issue in FF2, IE 7 and Safari 3.0.4 (WindowsXP).
