IE 6-8 Ajax Problem with Response Text

Reported by Voodoom | July 15th, 2010 @ 03:56 PM

Hi,

I'm using the current stable version I think 1.6.1? Downloaded it from the website a few hours ago.

I wrote an new search application with PrototypeJS. The App should update the content of different boxes while there are multiply ajax requests. It really works great within Firefox, Opera and co...

Here is the code:

    <script type=\"text/javascript\">
        function showSearch(str)
        {
            new Ajax.Request(\"search/returnresult.inc.php?q=\"+str+\"&l=\+".$_SESSION['lang']."+\", {
                             method: 'get',
                             onSuccess: function(transport) {

                var part = transport.responseText.split(\";;\");
                for (var index = 0; index < part.length; ++index)
                {
                    var domain = part[index].split(\"__\");

                    for (var ind = 0; ind < domain.length; ++ind)
                    {
                        var notice = $(\"search_\"+domain[0]);
                        notice.update(domain[1]);
                    }
                }
            }
        });
    }
    </script>

The code should split the responsetext with __ and ;; which works fine. But as soon as you search IE6-8 stopp working within the following line of the prototype.js

IE 8 complaints about:

  this.responseText = String.interpret(transport.responseText);

IE 6 about:

  this.headerJSON   = this._getHeaderJSON();

Thanks a lot,

Voodom
