Form.Element.Methods being overwritten by Form.Methods on MobileSafari

Reported by airportyh | May 3rd, 2010 @ 08:55 PM

If you extend Element.Methods with methods which have the same name as existing methods in Form.Element.Methods(e.g. getValue), they override the ones in Form.Element.Methods. A test case is attached.

A potential fix (which worked for me) is to remove these lines from prototype.js:

if (Prototype.Browser.MobileSafari)
  Prototype.BrowserFeatures.SpecificElementExtensions = false;

But I don't know the reason these 2 lines were there in the first place. However, I suspect that MobileSafari has change enough since then - (2007: http://github.com/sstephenson/prototype/commit/5645a0783ff9a87a56c9...) that this may not be necessary anymore.

But even still, it seems like the browsers which do not have the SpecificElementExtensions feature always had this issue? Granted this is probably an issue that is rarely encountered.
