prototype 1.6.1 conflict with ext js causing stack overflow error

Reported by adam.jimenez | March 31st, 2010 @ 12:48 PM | in 2.0

Prototype 1.6.1 and ext js both define a defer method and are conflicting.

Not really a bug in prototype per se but it is causing problems.
Be nice to hear prototype teams thoughts on this.

    • State changed from “new” to “enhancement”
    • Milestone set to 2.0

    We’re looking into building solutions to this issue into Prototype 2.0. However, as fixing this involves important changes to our API, we’ll be weighing the benefits and tradeoffs of such changes and can’t guarantee they’ll make it into the final version of Prototype 2.0. Thanks for your understanding and for taking the time to report this issue.

    • Importance changed from “” to “Low”

    Quick patch for the stack overflow issue (prototype 1.7), from line 5832, substitute "defer" with "delay(0.01)":

      function pollDoScroll() {
        try { document.documentElement.doScroll('left'); }
        catch(e) {
          timer = pollDoScroll.delay(0.01);
      if (document.addEventListener) {
        document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', fireContentLoadedEvent, false);
      } else {
        document.observe('readystatechange', checkReadyState);
        if (window == top)
          timer = pollDoScroll.delay(0.01);
