prototype.js and script "defer" attribute causes IE 7 to hang

Reported by Søren Løvborg | November 16th, 2008 @ 01:14 AM

I usually consider it good practice to specify the "defer" attribute on my script tags, indicating to the browser that it should continue page loading/rendering before executing the script.

I'd thus load Prototype like this:

However, as I've learned, deferring prototype.js causes IE 7 (and possibly other versions of IE) to hang forever. The work-around is to not use "defer" for prototype (even though other scripts work fine... well, it's IE. Not supposed to make sense.)

It's not really a bug in Prototype, but I'm creating this ticket since you might want to document this somewhere (I didn't find any information on this, anyway).
